Dick and Sandra Garnett first discovered each other
at Depoe Bay, Oregon, in 1980.
They were married in Holland, Sandra's homeland, in January of
1981, returning to Depoe Bay in March of 1981, where they managed a
small motel.
In 1988 they moved to Colville, Washington and for nearly ten years
managed and owned the Beaver Lodge Resort on the Little Pend Oreille
Lake Chain.
In 1997, they sold the Beaver Lodge Resort and took a break, touring
Europe with their children Alex and Laura.
In March of 1998, they opened the Pet Shop in Colville. After it was
successfully established, they sold it and in June of 2001 they
purchased The Inn at Soap Lake.
In his younger years, Dick served in the United States Navy. He once
worked as a private investigator and has been in management for most
of his life.
Sandra is a skilled linguist, speaking four different languages,
Dutch, English, German, and French. She once worked as an
information officer on a cruise ship, and has traveled all over the
world.
Their children, Alex and Laura were both born while the family lived
in Oregon. Alex, who is 26 now, lives in Seattle, WA, pursuing his
career in acting. Laura, now 24, is the manager of the Inn and was
married to Terry Leasher on June 16 of 2007. They had their first
child in February, 2007; his name is Zander. Connor, their second son, was born in January, 2009.
